| How YOU can make a 13-String Box Lyre |
The
13 String Sound Box Lyre plays beautifully due to its internal resonance
box. The sound from this Lyre tends to be a more expressive, outward
sounding instrument.
This hand-finished lyre is now available in beautifitul warm Western
Australian Sheok timber, with an Australian Cedar soundboard, and
finished in environmentally friendly "Livos" plant resin (linseed-based)
and natural beeswax.

My Thirteen-String
Lyre Making Experience
~ by Vibodha Clark |
The
Thirteen-String Lyre was my first experience of making a wooden
sculpture - and not only that, it turned out great - and it sounds beautiful.
In a weekend, I turned this>>> |

this>>> |
How?
Well in this three-day woodcraft workshop by Pulse
Art Studios I not only learned - but actually made it happen...
|
The
frame is constructed by Nisargam in readiness for our workshop.
(First Photo Above)
We took the frame, and rusped and sanded it to the shape we wanted. |
I rusped the wood until it was this beautiful round shape &
began to carve into the wood to give it a more carved style - which
is what I desired.
|
The
first groove was inspired out of a 'slip' causing a groove, but as
you will see... it was inspiration... |
|
Then,
after sanding the entire instrument, I placed the 'bridge' - the piece
of wood that holds the strings away from the wood. |
A
good polish and smoothing, a few added touches and we were complete.
Three days to create an instrument? Absolutely. |
