ARTIST STATEMENT
Nis Wichtermann
What are musical strings doing on a wooden stump?
What does the Lyre and Dreamharp represent?
The lyre was a musical instrument used in Ancient Greece to accompany singing or recitation of poetry.
Some say the Lyre represents the underlying numerical harmony of the universe and that everything in the universe is in a state of vibration. If you consider the chair you sit on, the floor you stand upon and the earth and trees, they are all in a state of vibration. Sound may also be understood as being vibration.
Pulseart’s representation of the Dreamharp is based on these same principles and tuned to the pentatonic scale. By working with wood and strings Nis explores a deeper understanding between body and spirit and how we can harmonise with the universe through sound vibration.
Every organ, bone and tissue in the body has its own separate resonant frequency. This means individuals have their own vibration rate and resonance.
Through plucking and playing the Dreamharp we are able to harmonise these frequencies. Our body acts as a musical instrument and can be tuned and healed.
Each chakra acts as an antenna to connect us with what is going on in our environment. They are receivers of vibrational energy, which in turn provides information to help us to know ourselves and realise our inherit potential.
What is your potential in Life?

The Making process |

|
The importance of trees in a sustainable community and home.
How wonderful it is that nature can provide the materials to make a statement about body, spirit, soul and creativity.
By using a branch of a pine tree in my garden, I was able to express myself and add to the meaning of the tree, while emphasising its characteristics. |
|
The uniqueness of each piece of wood is amazing. You can be so creative with it and express your dreams.
For me this piece with an opening or gap in the middle emphasises the importance to look beyond the surface, to the unconscious would. |

|
The dark and light, inside and outside, are both made visible, representing the duality of life, and the coming together of masculine and feminine. |

|
By working with the grain of the wood the characteristics are emphasised. |

|
This symbolises the split in ego between the conscious and unconscious. |

|
Everything has it’s own vibration and frequency.
By adding musical strings this sculpture emphasises the use of sound to tune and balance your body and find your own harmony through sound frequency.
Pluck the strings and feel the vibration through wood and body. |

Gratitude to The Tree
"I grow in your Gardens.
I am responsible for fresh Air.
I am the warmth of your home in cold winter nights.
The protecting shadow when the sun burns.
I am the attic of your house. The top of your table.
I am the bed in which you dream your dreams.
I am the handle of your axe. The door of your house.
I am the wood of your cradle and your coffin.
I am your companion from beginning to end."
Please consider what you do to me
I am valuable to mother Earth and you

| New Life Dreamharp |

This beautiful log of Sheoak (spirit wood) comes from far down South of Western Australia. The outside was burnt to black coals in a bushfire in the forest, and was recovered as a dead tree. The sculpture stand retains and enhances the past life cycle, and brings the wood back to life. Playing the pentatonic tuned instrument, you feel the very soothing, strong vibration on your body. This is what a tree does for us when it is alive (and more...)
This Dreamharp is dedicated to the living trees in the forest
