About our newly formed group: Reconnecting Arts and Community.

Reconnecting Arts and Community is a not for profit organisation founded in 2011 by a group of artists and community members from within the Cockburn area. Our group was created to encourage our community to get together and reconnect with creativity, the arts and each other!

We hold Interactive Art Events and Community Markets, inviting local artists, musicians and crafts people to share their passions and get others inspired. There are market stalls, a small exhibition and most importantly -short interactive workshops and demonstrations available to the public. Our goal is to bring something new to the usual ‘markets’ by encouraging a peaceful environment and homely feel, as well as sustainable community space where people can come, experience and participate.

The Community Arts Market is a two day event hosted over the weekend of the 10 & 11 March 2012, with plans to hold at least 1-3 per year. The market will feature locals artists (estimated up to 15 stalls), interactive workshops and demonstrations. The event aims to encourage a community arts space where people can come and browse market stalls, support local artists and engage with others. It is also an opportunity for people to come, see and experience creativity for themselves and be part of art, whether it is through finger painting, clay work, cooking jams, stone or wood carving, etc. The event should have a positive and uplifting feel to it and we hope to make it a fun, interactive, and creative event, bringing together the community.
The overall intention is to bridge the gap between ourselves and our community, getting to know our neighbours, and build better dialog and relationships with one another. It is also about showing people new ways of being creative and getting involved in all forms of art, craft, music, etc.

Through getting involved in the arts, people may also be inspired to pursue other artistic endeavours, and though this foster better communication and build positive relationships.

History and Background

Nis Wichtermann, Danica Wichtermann and Andreas Hutter have been developing the idea behind the Community Art Markets over several years now, slowly since December 2009.

Nis Wichtermann’s family home in Spearwood seemed the perfect place to start, he already runs regular workshops there through his business Pulse Art Studio, so we decided to run a private Interactive Art Market, inviting several artists along to get involved, and tried to get our idea out to the community. We slowly built the idea and ran the event privately over the years, the most recent being on the 5-6th November 2011.

The vision for this event and the development of this community group originally came about through a dream, or vision that Nis had for his family home and business at the Pulseart studio:

Nis's Dream for the Pulse Art Studio

I feel that I am being called to make a space for art and community, here where I live. It’s my passion and dream. I’d like to invite you to share it with me.

My home in Spearwood is no longer needed as a family space to bring up children. I want to make a different kind of home: for art, craft, local people.

I want to share with you, and with our community, my sense of gratitude for life. I want to help others see the beauty around us.

My passion is to create a place where people feel that they can belong. It will be a place to come together through arts, craft and music.

My dream is that we sustain this place, and it sustains us. We can listen and talk to the trees and plants. We can value everything in nature that makes the world the wonder that it is.

So, if you are inspired by my words, please join me. You can get involved in a small way, or a big way. You can join me in creating a space from and for the heart, in a society that is run so much from the head.

I believe that we have all helped create the world around us. If there are things that don’t feel good to us, then it’s up to us to recreate something new.

And it’s time for me to give back to the community of teachers and friends that I have found here in W.A.

Please help me create a space where everyone can use art to celebrate and enjoy the richness and beauty of life.”

Blessings  Nis
